The Turning of the Year

As harvest draws to a close and the farm begins to settle towards winter, we’ll be marking All Hallows’ Eve at Primrose with an old-fashioned country gathering rooted in the land, the seasons and some of the traditions that have long brought rural communities together at this time of year.

We’re celebrating into traditional country customs, good food, simple games and gathering together.

Seasonal Farm & Market Garden Walks

We’ll be heading out with Jim, Gilla and Annabel onto the farm and through the market garden during the day to look at what’s happening as autumn gives way to winter.

Expect a proper Primrose walk rather than a polished tour, what’s still being harvested, what’s being overwintered, what the livestock are doing, how the soil is being looked after, and what’s already being prepared for next year.

Proper Country Games

There’ll be apple & spoon races, potato sack races and the Great Primrose Tug of War.

And yes, there will be prizes from the farm.

Apples, Pumpkins and Autumn Traditions

We’ll be pressing apples, carving pumpkins and making the most of the flavours and produce that belong to this time of year. 

Bring along your apples and take home your own apple juice!

There’ll be soul cakes, roasted chestnuts and toffee apples, with plenty of warmth coming from the kitchen and café too.

Seasonal Food & Warming Drinks

We’ll be serving a seasonal stew and seasonal soup, using organic produce and ingredients from the farm wherever possible.

To drink, there’ll be mulled cider, hot apple juice, gingerbread hot chocolate and autumn-spiced lattes, as well as our excellent coffee :)

The farm shop and café will also be open throughout the day, with our own seasonal organic vegetables, pasture-fed Red Devon beef, mutton, heritage pork and eggs, alongside the usual Primrose favourites.

Come and Join Us!

This is really about marking the season properly - getting outside, sharing food, having a laugh, learning a little about the farm and spending some time together as the year turns.
